New features added for the 2008-'09 college fantasy season include:
Award fantasy points for kickoff and punt returns to individual players
- Your league can decide how many points the individual player and/or the "defense/special teams" position should receive for a kickoff or punt that is returned for a touchdown.
Automated transaction waivers
- Premium leagues can now choose between the following types of transaction controls:
Automated
- The league commissioner can select how many transactions per week each team can make, when the transaction requests will be processed each week, and the order in which requests are handled. The commissioner can choose to prioritize transaction requests by total number of wins, total points scored, use a random order, or he can use a custom order of teams.
Manual
- This process is similar to how waivers were handled in previous years. All transactions kickoff a waiver request that the league commissioner can approve or deny. The transaction is effective when the commissioner approves the waiver request.
Off
- All transactions are processed first-come, first-served.
Odd-numbered league sizes
- Now your league of 7 can play without adding a ghost team, or begging your co-worker or brother-in-law to play in your league. You can create leagues for anywhere from 4 to 24 fantasy teams.
Multiple fantasy games per week
- Premium league commissioners can alter their league's schedule to include multiple matchups for fantasy teams each week and schedule bye weeks.
Custom tie-breakers
- The default tie-breakers can now be overridden by premium league commissioners. Options include:
Overall winning percentage
Divisional winning percentage
Head-to-head wins
Total points scored
Total points allowed
With these options you can even configure your league to rank teams by points scored ahead of overall winning percentage.
Live drafts for public leagues
- Public leagues will be offered with either automated or live drafts.
Scoring play bonuses
- Premiums leagues can assign bonuses based on the length of a touchdown scoring play.
Head coaches
- Premium league commissioners can add head coaches to their drafts and lineups. Head coaches earn points based on the following configurable scoring categories: Wins, Losses, Road Wins, Home Losses, Wins against teams ranked higher, and Losses against teams ranked lower.
Tight ends
- Starting in '08 there is a distinction between tight ends and wide receivers.
Select keepers/holdovers on live drafts
- Private league commissioners can now specify "keeper" players for live and automated drafts.
Opponent restrictions
- League commissioners in premium leagues can restrict fantasy points based on the team the fantasy player was playing. Options include: allowing all fantasy points, disallowing points against non FBS (DI-A) schools, and disallowing points against any school not in your league's talent pool.
Hello Hilltopper fans
- While they are still technically a "provisional" member of the Football Bowl Subdivision, your league can add Western Kentucky to your talent pool this year. For now they will be considered an "Independent" school until they are full members of the FBS and the Sun Belt Conference. If your league used all 119 FBS schools last year, we have taken the liberty of adding WKU to your talent pool for '08.
2007 Stats
- When your league commissioner adjusts your league's scoring weights he can preview how those settings would have affected the '07 season. In addition, '07 averages are listed anywhere in your league will reflect the average based on your league's current settings.
Skip the last week of the season
- a.k.a. "The Big Ten schedule". We have added three new playoff formats that end the weekend before Thanksgiving. So if your league wants to avoid the higher than normal bye weeks during the last week, or you want to avoid any fantasy-related indegestion on Turkey Day, your league can choose one of these playoff options.
14 week seasons
- We can't take all the credit on this one. There just happens to be 14 weeks between Labor Day and Thanksgiving this year as opposed the typical 13. So your regular season will be a week longer this year, unless you choose one of the early ending playoff options described above.
